Culture in Harmony - Saturday 24th May
Sea front evening music from 7pm to mid-night
Punta Gorda was founded by the Garifuna as Peini. Celebrate the town's rich heritage with two special performances at two special places!
Mario McDonald and Umalali at Beya Suites, 7pm to 11pm
Join Darius and Lisa Avila at their "Best Small Hotel of the Year" for Garifuna drumming and singing from Mario and the Umlalali group. There will also be BBQ fish and conch for sale, as well as their newly-invented chocolate drink flavoured with fever grass - a great new combination!
Chucuru and The Ambassadors at Reef Bar, 7pm to mid-night
Reef Bar, owned by Polly Wood, is PG's newest bar-restaurant, situated above the market and with views over the Bay of Honduras. Enjoy the traditional Garifuna music from Chucuru and his Ambassadors, as well as some modern covers of the late, great Andy Palacio. Try Polly's new "Reefer Rumana" - a great cocktail made from chocolate, banana, and rum - it tastes delicious!
With grateful thanks to Beya Suites and Reef Bar for their kind sponsorship.
